QR codes and vaccination certificates in Russia will not be canceled along with the abolition of covid restrictions. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Pavel Pugachev.
He said that during the pandemic, obtaining electronic certificates has become one of the top services, so the Ministry of Health decided to keep this practice even after COVID-19 receded.
“In today’s world, you always need to be prepared for the emergence of a new virus or bacterial infection. However, we already have a system in place that can be scaled up and applied to all infectious diseases and vaccination programs. It makes no sense to completely abandon QR codes“, – Pugachev told Izvestia.
According to the official, in the future, the QR code may become the key to information about all the vaccinations of each individual person throughout his life. At the same time, the QR code system will allow the authorities to track the collective immunity of any region or locality for any infectious disease.
The QR code system appeared in Russia during the coronavirus pandemic: during the peak periods of the epidemic, one could get into public places – shopping centers, hotels, restaurants, fitness centers – only by presenting an electronic certificate confirming vaccination or a recent illness.
