Two-time world champion in figure skating Evgenia Medvedeva said that she had spread false information, reporting the death of Kamila Valieva’s grandfather.
Earlier, on the YouTube channel “Rink,” Medvedeva said that Valieva’s grandfather died shortly after the end of the Beijing Olympics.

I apologize again to the viewer, but first of all to Camila and her family. The first thing I did was contact Valieva to apologize. You must admit your mistakes, reservations, everything. “I’m wrong,” Medvedeva wrote on her Telegram channel.
Valieva at the 2022 Games helped the Russian team win a gold medal in the team figure skating tournament. At the end of January, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) disqualified the skater for four years for violating anti-doping rules – trimetazidine was found in a sample taken on December 25, 2021 at the Russian Championship. The athlete’s results from this date were canceled, which led to a redistribution of the team tournament medals: first place was awarded to the US team, the Japanese were second, and the Russians received bronze. Valieva was also deprived of gold at the European Championship.
According to Valieva, the prohibited drug could have entered her body with the dessert that her grandfather Gennady Solovyov prepared for her.
