Medvedeva said that Valieva’s grandfather died shortly after the Beijing Olympics

The grandfather of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva died shortly after the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, two-time world champion Evgenia Medvedeva said.

Valieva at the 2022 Games helped the Russian team win a gold medal in the team figure skating tournament. At the end of January, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) disqualified the skater for four years for violating anti-doping rules – trimetazidine was found in a sample taken on December 25, 2021 at the Russian Championship. The athlete’s results from this date were canceled, which led to a redistribution of the team tournament medals: first place was awarded to the US team, the Japanese were second, and the Russians received bronze. Valieva was also deprived of gold at the European Championship.

According to Valieva, the prohibited drug could have entered her body with the dessert that her grandfather Gennady Solovyov prepared for her. The reasoning part of the CAS decision states that the athlete’s mother, because she was busy at work, asked Solovyov to accompany Kamila to the ice palace for training in order to ensure safety (so that no one knew her home address).

“I want to ask: where is Kamila’s grandfather?” There was a version about dessert, grandfather… Where is grandfather? – asked Olympic champion Alexey Yagudin in a show on the YouTube channel “Skating Rink”.

I would like to add: I recently learned that trimetazidine is completely eliminated from the body without traces that cannot be found in a doping test in five days. “People come to the Olympics less than five days in advance,” Medvedeva answered.
