In the galaxy NGC 4383, neighboring the Milky Way, giant explosions occurred that created a cosmic hurricane.

These explosions, equivalent to 50 million solar masses, filled intergalactic space with chemical elements, the future building blocks of new worlds and stars.

Using the VLT telescope’s MUSE instrument, astronomers studied this process in the galaxy NGC 4383, located 62 million light-years from Earth. The galaxy is spewing out a stream of gas rich in heavy elements, moving at speeds exceeding 671,000 miles per hour (more than 1 million km/h), SecurityLab reports.

Head of the research group Adam Watts emphasized the uniqueness of this phenomenon, noting the presence of oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur and other elements in the emitted gas. These streams play an important role in the evolution of the cosmos, serving as building blocks for new star systems and even possible life on other planets.

The team believes the gas eruption was due to powerful stellar explosions caused by intense star formation at the galactic core. These explosions are a key moment in the evolution of galaxies and space as a whole.
