5 TV Shows That Are Better Than Lost. From underrated to great – Executioner

--

The new LOST is stronger than the old one.

The series “Lost” has become entangled in popular culture forever. Yes, it is rarely reviewed now, but the good old LOST influenced a huge number of trends. The project of JJ Abrams and Damon Lindelof not only gave us one of the worst endings, but also made the series prestigious, and in Russia, because of it, stars of pirated translations appeared – the name of the Lostfilm studio seems to hint at this.

And yet it seems that for all its importance, Lost had too many disadvantages. On the one hand, the creators complicated the plot so much that at some point the chances of finishing the series more or less adequately evaporated. On the other hand, it was very pleasant to watch it and build theories. Riding this nostalgic wave, we have compiled a list of projects, each of which will ideally replace your prime “Lost.”

“The Leftovers” (2014 – 2017)

If you’re nostalgic for Lost but haven’t watched The Leftovers, you’re clearly doing something wrong with your life. The plot begins after the sudden disappearance of more than a hundred million people around the world – roughly speaking, something like Thanos’ snap happened, but without an obvious trigger. Those who remain are forced not only to cope with losses, but also to figure out why they were not the ones who disappeared.

Naturally, such an event could not pass without global consequences. New cults are appearing around the world, trying to make sense of the disappearance of two percent of the planet’s population. And many of the confrontations in The Leftovers are reminiscent of what happened on the Island in Lost. Only the scale here is much larger, and the character dramas (with all due respect to Abrams and Lindelof) are written much better. Definitely one of the most underrated series in history.

“Darkness” (2017 – 2020)

At first, “Dark” feels like it’s reminiscent of “Stranger Things” rather than “Lost.” Children disappear in a small town, causing a series of mysterious events to unfold. But very soon it becomes clear that everything is much more complicated and interesting, and the characters who seem to have nothing to hide turn out to be not at all who they say they are.

“Dark” is a gem for those who like series built primarily on mysteries. It is impossible to predict anything in advance here, and behind every door that opens with difficulty there are two new ones. Lost’s model of complexity is at work, but unlike it or, say, Westworld, Dark doesn’t go crazy in its later seasons, but confidently and consistently tells its story to the end. This was missing for everyone who still hasn’t forgiven the writers of “Lost” for the ending of the events on the Island.

“Manifesto” (2018 – 2023)

The plot of “Manifest” begins with the fact that flight 828 does not crash and does not disappear from radar, but lands calmly at the airport. True, there is one important nuance: the plane was delayed for five years, and everyone who was inside was considered missing. What happened here? Where did the five years go? How now to communicate with loved ones who have come to terms with the loss and started a new life? The questions in the “Manifesto” are very cool, but this is only a synopsis.

Then the mysteries only become more numerous. In a sense, the creators of Manifest were clearly inspired by the plot of Lost, trying to look at it from a different perspective. It’s also a complete reversal of the Left Behind story, because here we focus not on those who survive someone’s disappearance, but on the sudden return of passengers after an unexplained disappearance. A great series that deserves much more attention than the amount it eventually received.

“OA” (2016 – 2019)

Another project about a sudden disappearance. This time, however, only one girl disappeared – she had been missing for seven years. It would seem that she returned and returned, everything is cool, but during her absence she somehow learned to see, although before that she was blind. Some perceive Prairie Jackson’s return as a miracle, while others begin to think she poses a threat. But what really?

Unfortunately, Netflix never let The OA make it to the finale, but even the seasons we have now surpass Lost in many places in terms of suspense. Of course, the plot here is much more intimate – there is no group of surviving passengers on the mysterious island. But the easier it is to focus on one main mystery and all the side lines, and they are extremely good here.

“Hornets” (2021 – …)

The fact that the Hornets are LOST for zoomers has been noticed by many, and this popular opinion seems to be true. The story of a girls’ high school soccer team whose plane crashes in the middle of nowhere really feels like a cross between Lost and Lord of the Flies. And yet there are several important circumstances here.

Firstly, we know in advance that some of the girls managed to escape because we watch their adult versions when, many years later, strange events begin to happen to them. Secondly, the very aspect of survival, division into groups and mystical madness is shown here much more comprehensively than in the first standard seasons of Lost. Because Hornets doesn’t joke at all when the writers want to scare or confuse the audience.

Yes, the second season received mixed reviews, but that doesn’t mean it’s worse than the first. In fact, he is just different, and not all viewers were able to accept the changes. But this did not make the series any less mysterious and exciting, so “Hornets” is still the best replacement for “Lost” of all modern series. And in its own right, without comparison with other projects, it is no worse.
