Phoronix announced that the quarterly MESA 24.1 update brings significant improvements to the NVIDIA NVK Vulkan driver, and one of the most exciting additions is implicit pipeline caching.
Implicit pipeline caching is an optimization technique specifically for GPUs in which the GPU uses existing rendered content or existing pipeline configurations and this eliminates the need to reprogram the pipeline, ultimately delivering higher performance and increased efficiency.
While we don’t know what kind of performance optimization the new update will bring, it will certainly be noticeable. This will improve the performance of NVIDIA GPUs on the Linux platform. Phoronix called MESA 24.1 a huge quarterly update for every platform architecture. With the stable version released around mid-May, we can expect decent all-round performance improvements thanks to the wide-ranging changes made.
