open world adventure celebrates its anniversary

--

Five years ago, the open-world action game Days Gone from Bend Studio hit the market. A quick look at the beloved PS4 hit that will never get a sequel. On April 26, 2019, the zombie action game was released exclusively for PS4 by Sony.

It looked like a promising blockbuster: you’re racing on your motorcycle through a spectacular post-apocalyptic world in which tons of infected people are hiding. The highlight is the huge horde battles, in which you fight hundreds of opponents at once. The graphics, plot, and gameplay made a good impression.

However, with the release came disappointment. The biker adventure has stalled mainly due to numerous technical issues. The metascore was only 71 points – too low for a Sony exclusive. Therefore, Sony Bend was forced to introduce several updates and fix many bugs.

Taking a look at the user ratings, it’s clear that this is actually a great video game. This figure, 8.5 points, significantly exceeds the press rating. Most of the evaluations presented were positive. Fans, as well as Days Gone’s supposedly strong sales numbers, didn’t convince Sony to greenlight a sequel. This decision left Bend Studio frustrated, causing the game’s senior developers to resign.

Be that as it may, the PC version was released in May 2021, making the game more popular. Taking a look at the Steam reviews, it is clear that customers were completely satisfied. Due to the popularity of the action-adventure film, dedicated fans finally started a petition that was signed by almost 225,000 people. However, this did not give anything. A film adaptation is also in the works.
