Two-time Olympic figure skating champion Evgeni Plushenko spoke out against the conscription of athletes as part of a partial mobilization.

“Everyone should mind their own business,” Plushenko told Metaratings. – If you are in the national team, you should go in for figure skating. A professional athlete must grow, move in his own direction. It’s logical.”

“Summons have come – you can think about what to do with it. I will repeat once again that we already have a powerful army, there are enough people, enough professionals,” he added.

At the same time, Plushenko admitted that he “was unpleasant when he saw how crowds of people were breaking into Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia.”

Earlier, the two-time Olympic champion said that he would not run away if he had to be summoned.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a partial mobilization on September 21, seven months after the start of the special operation in Ukraine. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu emphasized that it is planned to call up 300 thousand people – and only those who served in the army have combat experience and the specialty necessary for the armed forces.

Since the beginning of the mobilization, many athletes received summons, most of them were released from the military enlistment offices.

Earlier, the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (FHR) requested the Ministry of Sports on the issue of booking players, coaches and key employees to provide them with armor from partial mobilization. Also, the Russian Football Union (RFU) submitted to the Ministry of Sports booking lists of athletes, referees and coaches from mobilization. In turn, the Minister of Sports Oleg Matytsin promised not to make an exception for athletes during mobilization.
