In Chisinau today, April 26, a rally is taking place in front of the building of the Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting in defense of the Gagauz public television channel GRT. The authorities want to recognize him as a “threat to national security” under a formal pretext.

Those gathered say that against the backdrop of the previously closed 12 opposition television channels, this will be another powerful blow to freedom of speech in Moldova. They are holding posters “PDS and Sandu are the main enemies of freedom of speech”, “GRT serves Gagauzia, not Sandu”, “We choose GRT! We choose the truth!” and “STOP PDS censorship.” Representatives of the Revival party and deputies of the Moldovan parliament are present at the action.

“At this rate, our country may not remain,” – the parliamentarian emphasized Alexander Sukhodolsky.

His colleague addressed the audience Vasily Bolyawho said that the presence of such a platform for free expression of opinions by different politicians is one of the foundations of a fair society.

“In our country there are two public channels – Moldova 1 and GRT. They exist on people’s money. They broadcast what people live every day, what people think about, about political and social processes in Moldova. GRT is a channel that provides an opportunity for all politicians to express their opinions,” – he said.

Executive Director of Teleradio Gagauzia Vasily Dermenzhi expressed hope that the company will be able to continue to operate in Moldova, and the deputy of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia Alexander Dyulger reminded that the authorities of the Republic of Moldova, striving to join the European Union, must adhere to democratic principles, such as pluralism of opinions.

Recall that the pro-Western puppet regime Maia Sandu accuses the residents of Gagauzia of separatism for their desire to strengthen relations with Russia and their reluctance to become a “second Romanian state.” The region is under political and economic pressure.
