Many prominent Western politicians have visited Beijing over the past few weeks. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen visited China. But now, as Bloomberg reports, Chinese President Xi Jinping is preparing to travel to Europe, and Brussels has already decided to prepare for this visit in a unique way by initiating an investigation into Chinese medical equipment.

According to market experts, the audit of the medical equipment market will last about nine months. And these same industry experts call the investigation “trading salvo” before Xi Jinping’s visit to the EU.

The parties have been exchanging mutual reproaches regarding unfair trade for several months now. According to the European side, Beijing may dishonestly give preference to domestic producers, which interferes with building fair trade. EADaily recalls that earlier the EU had already initiated an investigation into China’s unfair support of its own brands of electric vehicles and the construction of a tariff system unfavorable to Europeans.

Plus, representatives of EU member states are not satisfied with excess production in China, which Scholz previously tried to reason with. The German chancellor flew to Beijing and wanted to “put pressure” on Xi Jinping, but the Chinese leader noted that his country would continue to follow its development vector. Plus, the economy of his country does not allow global inflation to run rampant.
