The Court of Appeal in Nicosia agreed to the extradition of Russian citizen Artur Petrov to the United States. In August 2023, he was arrested in Cyprus at the request of American law enforcement officers. Earlier, the district court in Larnaca declared the extradition illegal, Petrov said.

“The decision of the Court of Appeal cannot be explained, since the district court in Larnaca previously recognized the illegality of the extradition,” TASS reports Petrov as saying. He added that his lawyers will study the court decision and conduct an examination. After this, it will become clear whether it is necessary to file an appeal to the Supreme Court of Cyprus.

US authorities suspect the Russian of “illegal purchases of large volumes of American-made microelectronics for a Russian company.” She is allegedly related to the defense industry. The extradition request was sent by the American authorities to Cyprus in October, RT reports.
