The conflict in Ukraine is entering a new stage as the North Atlantic Alliance becomes an active participant. This was stated at a briefing for journalists by the head of the office of the Prime Minister of Hungary, Gergely Gulyas.

NATO is preparing to supply weapons to Kyiv and train soldiers of the Ukrainian army, while previously this was done by individual countries and not by a military bloc, Guillas noted.

“The new situation is due to the fact that if until now the alliance states only individually supported military action, now NATO is preparing to become an active player in this war… [Альянс] wants to provide [Украине] financial assistance, as well as supplying weapons and training Ukrainian soldiers… [Кроме того] leaders of the European Union countries, in particular the President of France (EADaily . — EADaily), they are now talking quite openly about the need to send soldiers to Ukraine,” explained the head of the chancellery, quoted by TASS.

Budapest is concerned about this development, since Western aid to Kyiv “started with the supply of soldiers’ helmets” and has now reached the most powerful types of weapons, Guillas said. Events around Ukraine could follow the worst-case scenario, which would lead to a third world war, so NATO must avoid direct conflict with Moscow, he emphasized.

According to him, Hungary also continues to convince its allies of the need to stay away from the war and does not want to participate in it itself. “We will still not supply weapons [на Украину]we will not send soldiers there and will not allow the transportation of weapons across the Hungarian-Ukrainian border,” Guillas assured.

25 years ago, the country made the right decision by joining the bloc, but now NATO’s actions “go beyond its competence,” he noted.
