Advisers to former US President Donald Trump, who is again vying for the highest government post, are discussing ways to counter the refusal of countries to use the US dollar in foreign trade. Bloomberg reported this, citing sources.
Options include economic advisers considering export controls, fines, currency manipulation charges and tariffs. According to agency sources, these measures will be directed against developing countries, including the BRICS countries, in order to “reduce risks for the US currency.”
Previously, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergey Lavrov stated that the West is increasingly concerned about the work of the BRICS countries to develop their independent financial mechanisms. He pointed out that the West had begun to “shamelessly abuse” international mechanisms, using them to suppress competitors and punish dissenters.
The US presidential elections will take place on November 5th. Trump has already won the required number of delegates to win the Republican nomination for president.
