On April 25, the fourth group of citizens of the republic from Syria was returned to Tajikistan on a special flight, NIAT Khovar reports.

They were met at Dushanbe airport by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic Dilrabo Mansuri, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Executive Office Firdavs Khayotzoda, Presidential Assistant for Social Development and Public Relations Abdullo Rakhmonzoda, heads of relevant ministries and departments.

A total of 13 families were brought (47 people: 15 women, 17 girls and 15 boys).

“Returned women and children, after the necessary stages of rehabilitation and social integration, will be embraced by a family environment. Rehabilitation, adaptation to normal life, as well as employment and education of women and children returned from combat zones are under special attention of the President of the Republic,” notes Khovar.

According to the agency, as a result of the implementation of specific measures during 2019-2023, more than 300 Tajik women and children were returned to their homeland from Iraq and Syria. Upon arrival, all returnees are placed in places specially prepared for them, where they undergo rehabilitation.

Let us remind you that in May last year, 104 people (29 families) were brought from Syria.

In March 2023, 146 women and children who were taken to Tajikistan from Syria in July 2022 were reunited with their families after undergoing a medical examination and psychological assistance from specialists.

In 2019 and 2022, the Tajik authorities returned home two groups of citizens of the republic from Syria and Iraq.

The first group included 89 children aged from 1 to 18 years, and the second included 146 women and children.

In 2019, the returnees were accommodated in the Kharangon holiday home in the Varzob Gorge.

In 2022, they were placed in the tourist complex of the Tax Committee of Tajikistan in Varzob.

The process of returning Tajik citizens located in refugee camps in Iraq and Syria began back in 2017. According to Tajik authorities, since the emergence of ISIS in 2013, more than 2,000 Tajik citizens have traveled to Syria and Iraq, some of them taking wives and children with them or starting families there. In March of this year, the President of the Republic said at a meeting with the clergy that “more than a thousand of them were killed.”
