The meeting of the public council under the election commission of the Pskov region is taking place today, April 24. Participants discuss the results of the 2024 presidential campaign, PAI correspondent reports.
“A little over a month ago, the main elections in our country ended – the elections of the President of the Russian Federation. Today we are meeting with political parties, with members of the public council of the election commission of the Pskov region in order to sum up the results of the campaign that we have had. We want to present the results and talk about how the election campaign went, what were the features, and listen to the opinion of our colleagues from political parties about what questions were asked to the election commission, whether everything was good and to take into account the wishes,” said a representative of the election commission Pskov region Igor Sopov.
The event is being held, among other things, to prepare for a single voting day in 2024.
“As a rule, such discussions are very fruitful. We talk about how the commission works, the parties talk about how they feel during the election campaign, so we expect that we will have an exchange of views, a dialogue that is so important for us,” said Igor Sopov.
As a rule, such meetings take place once every two to three months and precede important electoral events, he emphasized.
At the beginning of the event, Igor Sopov made a report on the results of the election campaign for the Russian presidential election in the region. In particular, he outlined the main figures based on its results.
Igor Sopov recalled that the election commission did not receive a single complaint from political parties, candidates, or voters.
In addition, Igor Sopov recalled that international observers were present at the elections. “Many of them were blown away by DEG. We talked for a very long time and explained why this was needed. In general, according to them, the election campaign in Russia can be characterized by the following phrase: “Elections in the Russian Federation are too transparent,” he said.
In particular, Igor Sopov indicated that with the help of the DEG, most residents aged 31 to 40 voted. “We were, of course, disheartened that young people [от 18 до 20 лет. – ПАИ] doesn’t go to elections, and doesn’t even use the DEG,” emphasized the chairman of the regional election commission and called on parties to interact more actively with young people.
In addition, Igor Sopov reported that the regional election commission has already submitted an application to participate in the DEG in 2024. “Today the Central Election Commission reported that about 23 regions submitted an application, including the Pskov region. It will be very important for us if those people who are outside the Pskov region can vote in municipal campaigns,” he said.
At the end of his speech, Igor Sopov called on the parties to more actively agitate residents to come to the polls.
In addition, the chairman of the regional election commission, based on SDG data, presented the results of a survey on the trust of region residents in the results of the presidential elections in Russia. According to him, this year’s figure broke an absolute record (47% definitely trust, 25% rather trust).
