The book invites reading Yekaterinburg residents to immerse themselves in the world of literary life of the 21st century. Conversations with famous Ural poets and writers are collected under one cover: Sergei Belyakov, Vladimir Blinov, Boris Dolingo, Yuri Kazarin, Evgeny Kasimov, Alexander Kerdan, Vadim Osipov, Vladimir Sutyrin, Boris Telkov, the author of the project told OG.

In 2023, Sergei Martyanov’s novel “Victor and Margarita” was shortlisted for the Bazhov Prize, and the book “Stop, Filmed. Feature films of Ural cinematographers” is presented for the 2024 Governor’s Award. In total, as a director and screenwriter, he created more than 60 feature films and documentaries at the Sverdlovsk and Ural-Siberian film studios, the Katharsis, ZOV, and Uralfilm studios.

The modern literary process in the new work is presented by the author in an entertaining and original way. The central theme is literary method and the lyrical personality of each author in the context of memoirs and historical notes.

“I began conversations about literature with Ural writers with the goal of creating a documentary literary novel based on the conversations of modern poets and prose writers about themselves and their literature. My own prose life was structured around the questions I asked writers. The ambiguity and inconsistency of their answers formed the desired uncertainty of the narrative, in which you can breathe and vibrate,” notes Sergei Martyanov.

In the judgments of the book’s heroes one can feel respect for tradition and reverence for the cult figures of Ural literature: Pavel Bazhov, Nikolai Nikonov, as well as other less well-known persons to the public – for example, Boris Maryev, Alexei Reshetov, Igor Sakhnovsky, Arkady Zastyrets.

The book contains frank opinions of project participants and exclusive information about personal experiences and things, works of other writers, as well as notes about the literary process at the beginning of the 21st century in general and in the Urals in particular.

The publication is illustrated with photographs of Vadim Osipov and personal archival materials.
