--

The portal ulpravda.ru monthly tells how the cost of food, non-food goods and services changes in the region. In the latest economic review, read about price changes in March 2024.

All goods and services, the prices of which are monitored monthly by Ulyanovskstat specialists, are divided into three groups: “Non-food products”, “Services” and “Food products”. At the beginning of spring, a general increase in prices was recorded in the first two groups.

“The consumer price index for goods and services in March compared to February was 100.25%,” the territorial body of state statistics “Ulyanovskstat” told ulpravda.ru. “This average increase of a quarter of a percent was ensured by rising prices for services and increased average prices for non-food products.”

Traveling will cost a pretty penny

Services went up by 0.9% last month.

“In March, five types of services became more expensive in the Ulyanovsk region,” the territorial body of state statistics told us. – The most significant growth – almost 9% – was recorded for foreign tourism services. For example, a one-week trip to Turkey, which was sold at the end of winter for 56 – 57 thousand rubles, in March already cost at least 67,500. The average increase in prices for tours to Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and the countries of the Transcaucasus was around five thousand rubles. Holidays in Belarus have also become more expensive for Ulyanovsk residents. But trips to certain countries in Central or Southeast Asia became cheaper in early spring. Moreover, the average prices for trips to Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam have decreased significantly – from 116,000 to 106,000 rubles.”

Last month, sanatorium and health services also became more expensive. For example, the average cost of one day of vacation in a Russian sanatorium for the first time in a long time exceeded the “3,900 rubles” mark.

Ulyanovsk residents also began to spend extra money on traveling by rail: tickets have become more expensive for trips on both branded and non-branded trains, both in compartment and reserved seat carriages. Passengers began to pay an average of 30 rubles more for every 100 km of travel.

But tickets for air travel in March were sold cheaper than in February: air passengers paid 1,600 – 1,700 rubles less for every 1,000 km of flight in an economy class airliner.

Many Ulyanovsk residents have felt the increase in the cost of medical services.

“An average increase in prices has been recorded for an initial consultation with a doctor, for ultrasound of the abdominal cavity, for MRI diagnostics, for gastroscopy,” we were told at Ulyanovskstat. “In addition, the procedures for physiotherapeutic treatment, therapeutic massage and general blood tests have become more expensive, and various dental services have become more expensive: tooth extraction, caries treatment, making a removable denture or crown.”

Some household services also became more expensive in March: bathing, putting on heels, trouser repairs, dry cleaning, washing, ironing various things…

“Various types of work increased significantly in price at the beginning of spring,” noted the territorial body of state statistics. “For example, the cost of covering 10 square meters of walls with wallpaper has increased by an average of 650 rubles, and the service for adjusting the wheel alignment of a passenger car has become more expensive by 200 rubles.”

But banking services will not become more expensive in 2024. In February, their value remained at the January level, and in March it completely decreased. Thus, at the beginning of spring, Ulyanovsk residents could take out loans from banks at lower interest rates than last winter.

Color TVs in the top price rises

According to Ulyanovsk statisticians, the average cost of non-food products increased by 0.52% in March.

“In this group, we monitor prices for 265 goods, and last month most of them increased in price,” Ulyanovskstat told us. – But the price increase was minimal – from 0.03 to 1%. A more significant increase in price was recorded only for tobacco products (2.38%) and television and radio products (1.55%).” For example, the average cost of a color TV has increased by 700 rubles.”

We monitored the changed prices and found out that, for example, clothing items – spring jackets, tracksuits, trousers, skirts, shirts – became 10 – 40 rubles more expensive. Women’s and men’s shoes have increased in price by an average of 100 – 150 rubles. Various furniture – wardrobes for dresses and linen, dining tables, armchairs, sofa bed – were sold in March for 200 – 300 rubles more than in February. Some building materials have become more expensive: a pack of 1000 red bricks has increased in price by 400 – 450 rubles, prices for euro slate, linoleum, ceramic tiles, oil paints have risen…

Last month, prices for many electrical household appliances changed: refrigerators, washing machines, electric vacuum cleaners, sewing machines became slightly more expensive, and household electric stoves and microwave ovens became cheaper.

An unpleasant trend has been noted in the price of electronic devices for measuring blood pressure: it has been growing for several months. In January, the average cost of a tonometer in Ulyanovsk pharmacies was 3,260 rubles, in February – 3,360, and in March – already 3,414.

Prices for fuel, also included in the non-food group of goods, mostly did not stand still last month. But the changes turned out to be cheap. Gas motor fuel fell in price by 24 kopecks per liter, diesel fuel became cheaper by a penny. At the same time, several brands of motor gasoline have risen in price: 76 has increased in price by a kopeck per liter, 95 by 8 kopecks.

Did Ryaba’s product take a break before Easter?

The only group that recorded a general decline in prices in March was “Food products”.

“In the Food Products group, we calculate prices for 128 items; in March, a slight increase in prices was recorded for some products, and a decrease in prices for another part,” Ulyanovskstat told us. “At the same time, the average price of all products in this group decreased by 0.45%.”

In March, it was profitable to buy butter (the average cost of a kilogram of this product decreased by 18 rubles), pasta and bakery products, meat products… Finally, the price of a chicken egg decreased: the product from Ryaba fell in price by three rubles per ten.

Throughout 2024, sweets have become cheaper in the Ulyanovsk region: in March, prices for caramel and chocolate decreased again. But sugar rose in price for the first time in several months, adding almost one and a half rubles to the February figure. The average price of this product in the region exceeded 65 rubles per kilogram.

It is not surprising that the increase in the price of sugar affected the cost of cakes: the average price per kilogram of this product reached 700 rubles.

As expected, many vegetables went up in price in March: potatoes and onions rose in price within a ruble per kilogram, a kilogram of carrots increased in price by an average of 3 rubles, a kilogram of cabbage – by 5, a kilogram of beets – by 9, a kilogram of tomatoes – by 12. But cucumbers In Ulyanovsk stores in March they were sold much cheaper: the average cost of a kilogram was 160 rubles, which is 65 rubles less than in February.

Ulyanovsk residents were pleased with the March prices for fruits and citrus fruits – they mostly decreased. Pears, grapes, oranges, and lemons became cheaper; prices for apples and bananas remained at February levels.
