A resident of the Oktyabrsky district contacted the police regarding fraud. The woman said that on the morning of April 17, unknown people called her and told her that her daughter ended up in the hospital after an accident. False medical workers demanded about 800 thousand rubles for the treatment of a relative of a pensioner. The Saratov resident told the attackers that she had 225 thousand rubles at home and gave them to an unknown person in the evening of the same day. Three more elderly residents of the city reported similar facts of deception by scammers. Thus, a 99-year-old resident of the Oktyabrsky district, after a call from unknown people and a message that her granddaughter had been in an accident and money was needed to resolve the issue, transferred 570 thousand rubles through a courier. 88-year-old residents of the Kirov and Leninsky districts, after talking on the phone with strangers, gave 500 thousand and 117 thousand, respectively, to the scammers’ accomplice.

Criminal investigation officers of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Saratov detained the suspect – a 20-year-old resident of the Oktyabrsky district, who had previously had no problems with the law. After admitting to four facts of fraud, the girl said that she found a job on the Internet, registered online, and a month later received assignments from curators. Subsequently, she transferred the money of the elderly to the accounts of “employers”, leaving herself 5% of each amount. For all these facts, criminal cases have been initiated and are being investigated on the grounds of a crime under Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. A preventive measure was chosen against the suspect in the form of a ban on certain actions.

The police urge you to be attentive to elderly relatives, remind them more often that they should not trust strangers and transfer money through couriers.
