With the blessing of Metropolitan Isidore of Smolensk and Dorogobuzh, rector of the Smolensk Orthodox Theological Seminary, the subject “Basics of training clergy for serving in a combat zone” will be taught at the Smolensk seminary. Archpriest Vladimir Dmitriev will teach the new discipline.

The teaching of the discipline in higher theological educational institutions of the Russian Orthodox Church from the new 2024/2025 academic year is associated with the corresponding decision of the Supreme Church Council of the Russian Orthodox Church dated April 16, 2024 and the instruction of the Educational Committee of the Russian Orthodox Church on the introduction of the discipline into the Unified Bachelor’s Curriculum.

Archpriest Vladimir Dmitriev is the rector of the church in honor of the martyr Mercury of Smolensk in the city of Smolensk, and an assistant to the head of the Smolensk Military Academy of the Air Defense Forces of the Russian Armed Forces for work with religious servicemen. He has a higher theological education, studied at the Leningrad Theological Seminary and the Moscow Theological Academy (1990).
