Today in St. Petersburg, the All-Russian action “St. George’s Ribbon” started at Gostiny Dvor. This year, volunteers will distribute 810 thousand ribbons to St. Petersburg residents.
On the interactive site next to the metro there appeared a car from the Great Patriotic War, a photo zone with an exhibition of fragments of mask netting, cartridge boxes, helmets, and raincoat tents. Reenactors will tell St. Petersburg residents and guests about the history of the St. George ribbon and key historical events of the war. In addition, wartime songs performed by artists will be performed on stage.
“This is a symbol in the fight against fascism, and we hope this ribbon will be worn not only by veterans of the Great Patriotic War, but also by young people who take an active part in this reconstruction,” said Marina Mertsalova, deputy forecaster of the committee for press and media relations. .
Volunteers will distribute St. George ribbons on May 6 and 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. at metro stations. Also, residents of St. Petersburg and guests of the city can receive a ribbon at the branches of the Russian Post, Sberbank and Petroelectrosbyt, as well as at the Multifunctional centers for the provision of state and municipal services “My Documents”. On May 8, volunteers will distribute St. George’s ribbons during the solemn funeral ceremony of laying wreaths and flowers at the Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetery, and on May 9 – at the Victory Parade on Palace Square.
“This is a tribute to the feat of the defenders of our Fatherland, and certainly it occupies a special place in the hearts of St. Petersburg residents,” added Roman Volkovsky, first deputy chairman of the committee on youth policy and interaction with public organizations.
