April 24 – 80 years since the death of bibliographer Alexander Maksimov

Alexander Maksimov was born in Orel in 1872. He graduated from the Oryol gymnasium, then studied at Moscow University. In 1899, Maksimov joined the “Society of Lovers of Natural History, Anthropology and Ethnography.” Alexander Maksimov’s books and publications on ethnography were popular. Maksimov worked for many years in the scientific and bibliographic department of the Rumyantsev Museum Library. He was involved in compiling bibliographic aids on ethnography. Alexander Maksimov’s merits include compiling a general bibliography of journal articles and disclosing anonymous names and pseudonyms of published authors. Died on April 24, 1941.
