Cellcom customers will be shown premium sports channels for free for 21 days

Cellcom has made its One premium sports channels available for free viewing, for which it usually charges a subscription fee. As it became known on Wednesday, April 24, this is not about the sudden generosity of the provider, but about compensation as part of a representative lawsuit filed back in 2010.

Channels (49, 64 and 65) will be free for all Cellcom TV subscribers for 21 days – from April 22 to May 15. Those who have a subscription to these channels will get 4 other premium channels for free access – 57-60. There will be no subscription to the One package until May 10th. The exception will be cases when customers apply to sign up for a subscription for a longer period of time.

Recall that in the lawsuit filed against Cellcom, one of the customers complained that the company charged her 26 shekels per month for SMS messages with social gossip, although she did not order such a service. In total, the woman was deducted 312 shekels.

Six months later, the claim was reissued as a representative claim. Cellcom management denied the allegations. As a result, a pre-trial deal was concluded. The company admitted that up to 6,000 subscribers a year could be affected by its actions. For the period from 2004 to 2011, the amount of compensation reached almost 3 million shekels, taking into account the link to the price index and with interest (ribit).

The compensation is considered partial, since not all subscribers are interested in sports channels. In addition, in this case we are talking about a kind of advertising on the part of Cellcom, since there is a possibility that some customers will want to renew their subscription to premium sports channels after the three-week free period.

The plaintiff herself received compensation in the amount of 126,000 shekels.
