In the Taganay National Park in Zlatoust (Chelyabinsk Region), an art object is overgrown with mushrooms. As URA.RU was informed in the press service of the institution, some of the toadstools were used in the past as an archaic analogue of a digital signature in documents.

“The art object at the entrance to the trail “On the Edge of the Forest” has acquired its own mushroom garden. Among others, a saffron float, fire scales and dung beetles grew on a wooden structure. A few decades ago, ink was made from dung beetles,” URA.RU was told in the national park.

Cryptography of the past used improvised materials. The extract from dung beetles, as the scientists of the national park explained, was added to ordinary ink. They signed documents of special importance. Drying, the spores of the fungus formed a unique pattern – it served as protection. Another name for the mushroom is ink.

As reported, dung beetles are conditionally edible, although mushroom pickers bypass them. In case of eating, it is recommended to collect them on the day of birth, since they die off within two days, and a darkened cap means an accumulation of toxic substances. It is strictly forbidden to mix different types of dung beetles when eating: this can cause poisoning and death.

Russian researchers are studying the flora and fauna of Taganay. In particular, the nature of Far Taganay serves as a platform for studying the impact of global warming on biosystems. In the national park, you can find vegetation from different natural zones, up to the tundra on the peaks. Flora and fauna research is carried out by young and experienced scientists. Their intensity is facilitated by the Decade of Science and Technology announced in the Russian Federation. Over a ten-year period, the country must not only maintain, but also develop its technological leadership in various fields of knowledge and its application.
