After a full-scale invasion and for the past eight years, Ukrainians of various ages and levels of wealth have supported the Ukrainian military in the fight for the freedom of our land. A 17-year-old can be responsibly included in the number of children who help the Armed Forces in every possible way Igor Klimenko. A student of the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI) has not only devoted the last three years to the development of special equipment that can clear life-threatening territories, but also managed to win a popular world award Global Student Prize 2022.

The main goal of such an award is to find a student who, with his developments or other social contribution, would really affect education, as well as the life of his peers and society outside the borders of his native country. Our Igor Klimenko was able to get the prestigious title in 2022, despite the fact that he devoted the last three years of his life to his main invention.

His winning development was a special quadcopter mine detector. Such equipment would be an excellent assistant for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, especially in the conditions of a full-scale war with Russia, when the invaders often leave dozens or even hundreds of explosive devices behind them in the previously occupied territory.

The student studies at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of the KPI, however, he studies the topic of developing mine detector robots starting from the fifth grade! In fact, his interest in a possible contribution to the victory of the Armed Forces of Ukraine over the Russian aggressors began immediately after the war in Donbass in 2014.

During this time, he was a participant in many technical competitions and exhibitions. He managed to reach the finals of the X Festival of Innovative Projects “Sikorsky Challenge 2021: Ukraine and the World”, and also received a gold medal in the junior category of the Malaysian 21st Technology Exhibition (MTE) in 2022. It was the latest achievement that made it possible to show the invention of Igor Klimenko to representatives of the whole world.

So far, in his piggy bank there are only two working prototypes of a quadrocopter-mine detector. However, the guy is actively looking for investors to quickly bring the robot to the ideal and start using it in his work. Only in Ukraine, he managed to get two patents for his invention at once, but he does not stop there. At the moment, he is an active participant in the UF Startup School Beginner 2022 business incubator, which can also help him find funding for his own project.

By the way, the victory in the Global Student Prize 2022 brought Igor Klimenko not only recognition among peers and interested scientists, but also a prize of $100,000. He plans to invest money in the development of his offspring in order to quickly be able to put its production on stream.
